Vex Robotics Regional Competition
On the 22nd of January, the two robotics teams of CETNS, Sciborgz and Vex-Force, went to compete in a Robotics competition where they competed in a driving skills challenge, a programming challenge as well as a teamwork challenge. Sciborgz came in 4th place in the teamwork challenge and Vex-Force came 5th. It was really fun, they worked with loads of other schools and saw some amazing robot designs. Well done to everyone. BY LUKA This article is about New Year's Eve in different places.
As you know in Ireland you get together with family and friends and do the countdown. Some people have parties, others travel to family or friends and others just sit and wait at home until it is the New Year. In Holland or The Netherlands they have big fireworks and they eat Oliebollen which is like a jam doughnut but instead of jam it has dates or raisins and it is almost always celebrated together. In Scotland they call it Hogmanay they have parties and fireworks and sing 'Auld Lang Syne'. In Greece they eat traditional foods such as moussaka and tzatziki. In France there are fireworks around the Eiffel Tower. In China New Year's will not start until February the 5th and every year it is the year of a different animal. This year it is the year of the pig. However you celebrate New Year have a good one. By David and Rian. In our school we are using compost bins for waste.
We only have compost bins in first class A and B and sixth class A and B to try it out. There is also a bin in the staffroom. Children can put biodegradable lunch waste in these bins. For example; apple cores and banana skins, carrot and lettuce waste and orange peels. They CANNOT put tinfoil, paper bags, yogurt boxes or plastic in the compost bin. Shayne, Darragh K, Justin and Ciara will empty the bins two times a week. Some will go to the wormery and some to the large compost bin. VEX Robotics is an exciting and fun program where school children from 8-18 years learn about Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) while having fun! They design, build, program and compete with their robot in a spectacular competition organised by Dell. If you are interested in technology, engineering, project work and problem solving then this could be for you! This year's club has already begun and last Wednesday we even got our robot moving, (unfortunately it is still missing most of its parts.)Here are some pictures: The robot club has its own blog and soon you will be able to access this from the school website. In the mean time if you want some information check out this website. https://www.roboticseducationireland.com/

We recently got a wormery for our school with the €100 prize from the Primary Schools Garden Competition. A wormery is a place were you keep worms scraps and they eat it and turn it into compost. Then you can use that compost for your flower to grow faster and stronger. It is really handy to have. Here is a picture of it. Written by Shayne
